thank you so much for doing this research and writing. i'm a many times grand-niece of John Finch trying to research the Finch family from here in New York. I can't get a copy of the R.B. Rose essay you reference (thank you for referencing it so i know it exists!) from the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire and i don't know where else to go. i'd really like to get an offprint or to print it from online and i'd love to find more about John Finch and my family and am having a hard time. You're clearly excellent at this research and i'd really appreciate some pointers on getting that essay and looking for more info. Thank you!!!

I like the little drawings of Sefton Park and Princes Park. I forget that they are that close together. There's a little island in the lake in Princes Park that I used to play on as a kid and it seemed huge when I was that age, from about 9-13 y/o. I went there last year to have a look at it and upon inspection of the Island it just looked so.....well......small. I kind of regretted going to look at it at first but then as I walked along it I remembered the things it used to be to me and how all that was just an imagining, so I imagined it again and it felt good.

I just finished reading REDBURN for the 2nd time (I'd read it about 9 years ago). The chapter "What Redburn Saw in Launcelott's-Hey" is sad and incredibly haunting. One wonders how closely it adhere's to Melville's own experience. You say the "alley" is now demolished. Where did it once exist? That is, what street or collection of buildings has today taken its place?

Very nice site, by the way.

Come gather round people wherever you roam and loan your ego to the brothers and sisters
Who passionately find joy in the backstreets of Hope
Ladies and gentlemen this is Network theatre
Established in Orwells '84' fifty years after the birth of it's ancestor 'Merseyside Left theatre group'.
